Friday ramblings.

lemonheels.jpgIs it silly that I am obsessed with a pair of lemon yellow heels in the middle of winter? Curse that Anthropologie catalogue! Especiallly since it gets me drooling over expensive (in this case $298) accessories when a) I will not spend that much on a pair of shoes and b) I need to start my Christmas shopping already! Is anyone else a superwoman like my sister-in-law, Alex, who already had all her presents bought and wrapped the beginning of last month? I have always been a true procrastinator, so I’ll probably still be getting last minute things up until the 23rd. Do you all have exciting holiday plans? Besides the normal family dinners and present exchanges, we make tamales with my husband’s family every year. It is so fun, very messy and well worth it when we get to bestow delicious tamales on friends and enjoy a few ourselves! The girls of my hubby’s famly are also having a First Annual Galleta Fest (galleta is cookie in spanish) in a few weeks. Speaking of baking, my mom and I always get together and crank out tons of holiday cookies and bars. My mom is an amazing cook and baker, she does most things without recipes and I hope I can someday be as good as her! There’s also the little get togethers we will be having with friends, so overall it should be a busy rest of the month! Anyway, I hope you all have beautiful weekends. Take care!

Nightmare before Christmas.

xmassweater.jpgI feel blah thanks to a little stomach bug that came to visit Sunday night. In my grumpiness, my sister-in-law reminded me of our hilarious Christmas sweater conversation at the mall last week. I decided to see if I could find the most awful, hideous, it-burns-my-eyes holiday sweaters around. The good folks at QVC should be charged with a crime for the fashion atrocity that is Quacker Factory. Have you ever seen this segment? I by no means watch QVC, but Joel McHale on E! Network’s “The Soup” loves to show the lady, Jeanne, who promotes it and believe me you will be amazed. Just look at this stuff! I have been know to have a slight snowman obsession come Christmastime, but in the form of ornaments and holiday decor, not actually put on my body! And with a marabou trim no less! AHHHH! And this “Snowcat” cardigan complete with a festive kitty, birdhouse, cat zipper pull and tree. All on one sweater! There simply is not enough blog space to document all the horrors. Among other things, I actually saw fiber optic sweaters and a faux wrap with “Ho Ho Ho” written on the breast area. Now that I think about it, this is making me feel a little more sickly. I need to stop now!

I love the winter weather.

It’s the end of November and early this morning when it was still dark, the heater came on for the first time since February. At first, I woke up and thought something was burning but then I remembered what it was and smiled to myself as I fell back asleep. The past few days of sweater weather here in Arizona has me in a winter wonderland mood, which is perfect since I had a hard time getting in the spirit of Thanksgiving when I was still sweating in short sleeves. My house is all decorated inside, I’m searching for new Christmas cookies recipes to try and getting started on that holiday shopping. But the thing I really want to do to fully embrace these feelings while they last is put on cozy pajamas, curl up on the couch with a fluffy blanket, a good book (I’m reading Love in the Time of Cholera) and a Peppermint Mocha. It seems like every year I plan to buy new pjs but talk myself out of it when I see the new pumps/handbag/makeup that I want instead. This time I want to change that and give my snuggly side some respect. GapBody has supersoft tees and bottoms at great prices like these tartan flannel pants and the essential long sleeve T. And Anthropologie always has unique loungewear, I love Lilka’s pajama bottoms and Wednesday’s swingy cotton top available in their sleep section. While I’m buying gifts online, I definitely plan on throwing in a little present for myself and taking some time to enjoy this time of year stress free! Are there any places/brands you love for loungewear?pjs.jpg

Another sale and new site fyi.

chshoes.jpgNordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale for women started last week and I couldn’t resist purchasing one little gift for myself. These Cole Haan ‘Esme’ mid pumps in olive croc patent were marked down $60 and fit like a dream. Plus, I have been looking for a pair of perfect green shoes forever (with my obsession for the color and all!) There were also Fendi sunglasses marked down $200 that I was really tempted to get but restrained myself, or maybe I should say my husband restrained me. Anyway, there are limited days left of the sale, so hurry! Also, I will be leaving for a 4 day weekend in Texas, to visit my best friend Emily. I’m finally going there after canceling my trip earlier this year when I got really sick. I can’t wait! I probably won’t be able to post while I’m gone but I’ll be back on Monday with a new post. One thing you can pass the time with is the new site SugarLoving, from the TeamSugar network. It’s kind of like Digg for girls. I love it! Here’s a link to my profile. Check it out and join so you can “heart” posts along with me. Until Monday!

There’s a slight problem here.

asushirt.jpgWhile I am sure Chip & Pepper makes amazing denim and I love their vintage sporty tees in theory, maybe their reseach and development team needs to do a little background work (say a simple Google check?) before manufacturing hundreds of these bad boys. Considered one of the longest and nastiest rivalries in college football, (along with the oldest trophy in history for the winner) Arizona State and Arizona do not mix well. Putting the Arizona State colors and helmet on a tee and then labeling it with freaking ARIZONA at the top is blasphemy! You would figure a company that makes millions would double check which school the shirt they are selling represents. Especially since they had a short sleeved version last spring with the correct name on it. Can you tell I take college football very seriously? Go Devils!

The perfect coat.

theorycoat.jpgI saw this in the newest issue of Lucky magazine and fell in love. How beautiful is this Panya Coat from Theory? So many subtle but gorgeous details. I love the rich color, pleating, oversized buttons and the tie at the waist. I’m crossing my fingers that after winter is over, there will still be a few left and seriously marked down. Because it isn’t cheap! But classics like this stay in style forever and go from work to weekend errands to dress up time season after season. Not that I need another wool coat in my part of the country (I barely use the one I have), but hey! Maybe I’ll move somewhere cooler one year, or go on a fab winter holiday, or Christmas shopping on Michigan Avenue…ohhh, that’s a great idea! I’m going to have to work on making that happen…a weekend trip with my mom and sister sounds perfect!
