You look marvelous!

kate.jpgI adore Kate Winslet. To me, she is the epitome of glamour and sophistication but at the same time can be down-to-earth and a natural beauty. I admire pretty much everything about her style (and her talent as an actress too!) I love her hair and makeup in this picture from a movie premiere, it is so beautiful without being overdone. If only my stick straight hair could do tousled waves like that! I am seriously going to experiment with my curling iron and follow the directions mentioned by Oscar Blandi to achieve this style.  I am also considering getting some lowlights and highlights to get some more dimension in my hair color. I’ve been talking to my stylist about it for awhile because I am a member of a rare breed of women- natural blondes with virgin hair! I have actually never colored my hair before since it has stayed medium blonde and I get some natural highlights from the sun. I am really nervous if I should go for it, I don’t want anything drastic but I’m ready to spice it up a little. So two questions: 1. what celebrity style to you admire? and 2. do you think I should go for it with the hair color decision?

Dude, You’re Getting a Nicky!

So I’m having kind of a down day and I’m not in a very creative mood. I don’t have much to say today as far as shopping, beauty or fashion news except I went to Pier 1 Imports and bought a bunch of candles and holders for super cheap because they are having a big sale through this Sunday. The golden clover scent smells sooo good that I bought 2 of them! And I am eating up all the Britney and K-Fed updates, I am one of those rare people that has a soft spot for Miss Brit and I hope this change brings some positive things for her. Plus, I just read K-Fed filed for sole custody and spousal support, is he crazy??  And if you’re blah like me and need some entertainment, awhile back I got a forward with this crazy slogan generator. You type in your first name and receive a phrase for your personal marketing campaign:) Mine is the title of this post. Put a comment below with your unique name slogan (use the first one it gives you!) and give me something to laugh at! Until Friday!

New online shop!

piperlime.jpgWhile browsing around online for a new cashmere sweater at Banana Republic yesterday, I noticed a new shop from Gap Inc. called Piperlime. And guess what? It’s a shoe shop! Piperlime stocks hundreds of shoe brands from Kenneth Cole to Betsey Johnson for women, men and kids. And to top it off, their first guest editor is Rachel Zoe, the It-stylist of Hollywood. She will contribute stories on shoe trends and news, currently her tips for fall boots are to try the equestrian look, go for different calf heights, look for round toes or choose a platform heel. Piperlime offers free shipping and returns and 10% off your first purchase if you use a credit card from any Gap Inc store. I’m not sure yet if Piperlime will remain a web based only shop like Zappos or if they will have actual stores. One more great thing about this site is that they are partnering with the non-profit Soles4Souls, whose mission is to impact the lives of those in need with the gift of shoes. I’m definitely going to give Piperlime a try for my next shoe purchase, I need a new pair of everyday black pumps, I might go for the Franco Sarto Impala. I love pointy toes and bows and I don’t want to spend a ton of money so I think they are perfect!

Friday Favorites: JT news

jtshow.jpgYes, I have mentioned my affection for a certain popstar named Justin Timberlake before but I am so excited from recent Justin news that I had to devote a post to him! I love love love his new album FutureSex/LoveSounds, it’s got a modern vibe but is reminiscent of smooth groovin tracks from years ago. It gets me dancing and singing and I couldn’t be happier. Until…I got the news that JT announced his US tour schedule and Phoenix is on the list! I went to the Justified/Stripped tour in 2003 (one of the wedding gifts from my hubby- so sweet!) and was so impressed with his talent on stage. Even if I am surrounded by screaming teenage girls, I don’t care! But I did see plenty of 20s something couples there together so I didn’t feel too silly. Jan 14th here I come! Besides music news, Justin and his best friend Trace Ayala, unveiled their fashion line, William Rast, two days ago in L.A.’s fashion week. It has a southern comfort meets city style feel and features premium denim, casual graphic tees and hoodies for both men and women. I am already planning on purchasing a couple tees for myself and Adrian (my husband). After all, he does put up with my Justin obsession so he should get something out of it!

Friday Favorites: Everyday addictions

faves.jpgI thought for this weeks installment of Friday Favorites I would get a little personal and divulge a few of my favorites that I just cannot get enough of! When it comes to everyday things, there are some staples that I will never quit using. I am a huge fan of Aveda products, not only because of their botanical scents but also their commitment to improving our environment. I use Aveda’s Shampure Shampoo and Conditioner ritually. I love its smell and how soft, manageable and shiny it leaves my hair. As for my teeth, my absolute fav toothpaste is Crest Vivid White. You have to try it! It leaves your teeth feeling like you just got them cleaned at the dentist and it has a not too strong mint flavor.  Since you already know about my favorite lip gloss, I’ll also express my gratitude to my pick for best mascara. Sometimes you can never improve on a classic and I think Maybelline Great Lash is mascara royalty.  Never clumpy, great definition and always affordable!  In the clothing department, I buy lots of my basics at Ann Taylor Loft. They have great prices, selection and styles for everyday wear. And since I am a handbag junkie, my favorite bags are from Kate Spade. They are so well made, classy and gorgeous. I love designs that are understated but sophisticated and I think Kate takes the cake in that area!  For a little more info on my guilty pleasures,  I am devoted to watching the soap opera, The Young and The Restless (I Tivo it every weekday), I love Justin Timberlake (after all, he is bringing sexy back!) and I would go crazy if I didn’t have a Diet Coke every day…or 2…or 4.  So now you kow a little more about me, what are some of your everyday faves?

Looking good!

jennifer_aniston3001.jpgThe newest issue of People Magazine features their annual Best/Worst Dressed celebs and I couldn’t help devouring the details! The number one choice was a no-brainer- Jennifer Aniston. People writes, “Thanks to her tasteful, easy style, she stands out without ever trying to show off.” Following Jen, in order, are Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Eva Longoria, Charlize Theron, Kate Moss, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Kate Hudson. I have to admit I was surprised by the choices of Moss and Simpson. In my opinion, both have had not only their personal ups and downs this past year but fashion mishaps as well. Remember that horrible dress that looked like a technicolor sheet Jessica wore this summer? I also thought People forgot a few of my favorite stylish women, in particular, Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon, who always looks fabulous! The worst dressed section was eye-opening with articles on Sharon Stone, bad trends and bad hair. Check out People’s online coverage for all of the commentary and photos. Enjoy!

rachaelray.jpgSome people may disagree with me but I love Rachael Ray! The Food Network queen is the host of 4 different TV programs, author of a dozen cookbooks and even has her own magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray, which I highly recommend! And starting today she has her very own daily talk show (to use a Rachael-ism- how cool is that?!) She may be extra perky but she is like the everywoman’s Martha Stewart and I love that she is always down to earth, relatable and focuses on things that I can actually accomplish (unlike Martha’s origami picnic basket!)  Rachael’s website describes, “Rachael Ray will present simple solutions for everyday issues offering viewers unique take-away information as well as entertaining ways to squeeze just a little more out of life every day.” I don’t know about you but my Tivo is ready!
