Scarves at every price.

scarves.jpg(Can I just start out with a little whine that I had to turn my AC back on this afternoon since it got up to 80 in my house? Ugh.) Anyway, back to fashion. One of the few cold weather accessories we Phoenicians can wear without looking silly in our mild winters in the scarf. I love the look of a cozy scarf tied over a pretty sweater or turtleneck. For me, the scarf of all scarves is Burberry. In addition to their classic plaid, Burberry has tons of scarves in designs that will be timeless items for years. I particularly love Burberry’s Diagonal Check Scarf, ($350) it puts a spin on their signature plaid and is available in four colors. If you are looking for a more affordable option, I like the Wool-cashmere Torino scarf from J.Crew ($48). It is available in seven shades, is made in Italy and I love the long eight inch fringe. But if you need a cute scarf with a cheap price tag, head over to Old Navy, where they have scarves in prints and solids, knits and fleece, all on sale for $10. Happy scarf hunting!

Another sale and new site fyi.

chshoes.jpgNordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale for women started last week and I couldn’t resist purchasing one little gift for myself. These Cole Haan ‘Esme’ mid pumps in olive croc patent were marked down $60 and fit like a dream. Plus, I have been looking for a pair of perfect green shoes forever (with my obsession for the color and all!) There were also Fendi sunglasses marked down $200 that I was really tempted to get but restrained myself, or maybe I should say my husband restrained me. Anyway, there are limited days left of the sale, so hurry! Also, I will be leaving for a 4 day weekend in Texas, to visit my best friend Emily. I’m finally going there after canceling my trip earlier this year when I got really sick. I can’t wait! I probably won’t be able to post while I’m gone but I’ll be back on Monday with a new post. One thing you can pass the time with is the new site SugarLoving, from the TeamSugar network. It’s kind of like Digg for girls. I love it! Here’s a link to my profile. Check it out and join so you can “heart” posts along with me. Until Monday!

Just Say Never Again.

reebok.jpgWhen I was in elementary school, the “Just Say No” campaign of Nancy Reagan was in full swing. I wish they also stressed the importance of saying no to shoes like these. Why on earth do stores want to bring fashion travestshamockeries like this back??? I wore this particular shoe with pink mesh shoelaces. At the time, I thought I was rockin (but I also thought Michael Jackson and George Michael would marry me). Now I want to save future clueless souls from my mistakes. Please for the love of all that is stylish, do not wear 1980s Reebok high tops, do not EVER put on a stirrup pant and stay far away from slouch socks (especially if you are wearing two pairs of different colors layered on top of the other. TRUST me, it is not a good idea). I can deal with the leggings, I can deal with the skinny pants, but I have to draw a line somewhere. Those of us in our late 20s and beyond have been through these mishaps and only want to warn others (and forget the awfulness we once put on our bodies.) As always, feel free to disagree and if you are dying to relive the years when you thought boys wearing full on makeup and spandex were hot then scoop these up @ Urban Outfitters.

Must have fall item #2

collegehill.jpgSecond on my list for things I desperately want for this fall season is this smart, classic beauty of a handbag. The College Hill Charlie from Kate Spade is made with italian wool felt and trimmed in waxed vachetta. Out of the four colors it comes in (green, charcoal, navy and red) I can’t decide which I like best! I love the angular hobo shape, cute front zipper pocket and large brass button accents. Just looking at it makes me think of leaves falling, a steamy mug of apple cider and wearing a trench coat! And being that it is still like a 105 degrees here, what wonderful thoughts to have.

Must have fall item.

chiemihara.jpgI usually go for much different footwear but I am obsessed with these Chie Mihara t-strap pumps. They may look a little old lady-ish but I find it delightfully retro and others may think green an odd color choice but I cannot imagine a better place to declare love for my favorite color. I think it’s the fact that they are unlike any other shoe in my closet that has me so hooked. Plus the beautiful tiny cutouts on the toes, nice contrast of brown stitched trim and cute chunky heel make it so unique and perfect for this fall! Chie Mihara is one of my new favorite shoe labels and I am sure a manageable 2 inch heel with some heft will make my feet very comfy and happy (which sounds very nice after dealing with blisters from my newest wedges.) The only prob? They cost $298. A little high for me, so I will be stalking them online at Anthro until they go on sale.

Gift Card Dilemma

tiffany.jpgI have a gift card to Tiffany & Co. (yippee!) but I have no idea what to purchase with it! By no means do I have the extra budget to buy some huge diamond rock or spend thousands of dollars. Plus I’m not really that flashy anyway. I love simple, clean lines and classic pieces (which Tiffany is definitely known for), but they have such a huge selection it’s hard to decide on something! I am not a necklace person (thanks to my evil birthmark), instead I prefer earrings or bracelets. So here are a few of my favorites: Silver cushion drop earrings, Classic pearl studs, Onyx bead bracelet, and the Sevillana bangle. I already have a bracelet from Tiffany so I’m thinking maybe I should go with earrings, not that there is any problem with having more than one of their lovely bracelets! So what do you all think would be best?

I’m a J.Crew victim.

jcrewyork.jpgI know there has been much discussion in the blogging community this past year about the gradual increase in J.Crew prices. I remember J.Crew as like a slightly cooler cousin to the Gap when I was younger, but there is no way I would’ve been able to afford the $100 cotton cardigans they have now (although very cute!) when I was 16. I seriously think their prices have doubled since the mid-90s. Anyway, all this is completely frustrating when the J.Crew catalog arrives in the mail filled with pages of adorable but overpriced fall items. Is it crazy that I am trying to convince myself that paying $128 for a pair of J.Crew moccasins is okay? Have I explained my lovely childhood memories of growing up in Minnesota and going “up north” to buy new pairs of Minnetonka mocs? The warm, fuzzy feelings that wearing mocassins creates in my heart, so much so that I feel a little glimmer of autumn even when I live in a barren desert? The relief my feet will experience in their cozy interior after spending hours being tortured by my affinity for heels? I think I’m doing a good job at convincing myself, don’t you? But I really do think these are a beautiful take on the casual moc (plus there are so many colors!) or maybe I’m just kidding myself and becoming the prey of the J.Crew pricing machine? Have any of you seen a similar pair of mocs at a cheaper price? Let me know!

Bing Bang Clutch

bingbang.jpgI must have this lovely little clutch from Bing Bang! The crackled patent leather and classic feminine shape are a unique combo of modern meets vintage design. I definitely think it is a versatile clutch that could go from day to night no matter the occasion, which helps lessen the blow of the $352 price tag. Also, the gold chain strap is removable and it has a roomy lined interior with a 6 inch zipper pocket. The main reason I love this bag is because it is so different than most of the handbags in my possession. I’ve realized I am maxed out on basic black and brown bags, not that I don’t love them too, it’s just that I want to spice up my accessories a little bit. When looking for a new bag, I usually find myself browsing through the endless variations of black and brown until I tell myself to snap out of it! I already have my perfect go with anything neutral handbags staples. It’s time my choices got a little more creative and fun. Not sure if you’re in the same everyday rut like I am but maybe this is what you need to branch out of your norm along with me!

Get me out of here!

sandiegowear.jpgThis is the time of year when I am fixated on getting out of town for the weekend. I start to sound like a broken record, “blah blah too hot blah blah miss the green blah blah need ocean.” Then I start feeding my preoccupation by looking at hotels, things to do, where to eat and of course what to wear while on my little getaway. The bad news is my hubby’s schedule is awful this month and we’re saving all our extra cash for the new house we’re building so I’m not sure if it will happen for awhile! Poor me. Maybe if I talk about it enough and drop hints like crazy he’ll give in? Haha, I wish! If I am so lucky, here is my must have day wear for walking, shopping and relaxing in my favorite weekend spot, San Diego. (Terry Hoodie by Juicy Couture, Cropped jeans by Joe’s, White tank by Splendid, and a pair of old school Vans.)
