Lucky feature.

urbancookies.jpgCongrats to local Valley resident Shaun Breese for her awesome feature (‘My Black Book’) in this month’s issue of Lucky mag! She highlighted some amazing places in my city like The Counter, A.K.A. Green and Frances Vintage. Make sure you check them out if you ever come for a visit. (I promise the Valley is so much more than golf courses and Scottsdale clubs!) But even better is getting the word out about her amazing organic bakery Urban Cookies on 7th Street and Highland! Trust me, these are the best cookies ever, just look at the pictures and ingredient lists on the website. Plus, they are a wonderful company that uses recyclable packaging, waste reducing practices and stresses community involvement. Check out their customizable gift packaging (chocolate art, so cool!) and order a few treats to give as a present or just for yourself!

Another interesting invention.

mjarmwarmer.jpgMaybe I am simply unaware of fashion devices meant for keeping warm because I’ve lived in a desert since age 12 but have any of you ever seen arm warmers before? Of course we all know about leg warmers from Flashdance, but I am sure that I have not seen anyone in my life wearing separate warmers on their arms (and I travel to freezing places often). Am I clueless? Is this really popular in colder climates? Why wouldn’t you just wear long sleeves? Or gloves? Do your fingers not get cold too? Or do you wear gloves along with arm warmers? Can I ask anymore questions? Seriously though, I just don’t get it. Someone enlighten me.

Must have fall item #3

lambcardi.jpg

How cool is this L.A.M.B. cardigan? It not only exudes the label’s signature retro, fun style but it has a removable hem so you can wear it at the hips or at the waist. Genius!

Beauty Review: Vegas test

perfekt.jpgI got to meet my new little nephew and it was love at first sight. He’s is so tiny and beautiful, I didn’t want to put him down! It was a great visit and I can’t wait to see him again… but on to some beauty updates (although I could go on forever about him). So walking around in Sin City, staying out late, and lots of activity gave my new products a test. And guess what? Again, I am not so impressed. I tried Cosmedicine’s Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion after moisturizing. It went on smoothly and absorbed quickly into my skin. However, my foundation did not slide over the product very easily, it made it seem a little sticky. I think it de-shined my face for slightly longer than normal but overall I didn’t think it was much of a success. I also bought the new Perfekt Skin Perfection Gel. The Pros? It is a color corrector, primer and pore minimizer in one and is full of antioxidants and vitamins. The Con? It costs almost $60 for a pretty small bottle. You do use a very small amount so it should last awhile and it is the best primer I’ve used so far. It does a great job at creating a great canvas for additional foundation, getting rid of the redness of my sensitive skin and shrinking my pores. If you did not need much coverage, you could just use this product alone! The last new thing I tried is Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil and I’m sad to say that I do not like it at all. I know many people love the mineral makeups but just as my sister-in-law warned me, it made my face break out in tiny blemishes. I mean, not so many that I am screaming mad, but a few small bumps that I NEVER get is enough to make me return this immediately. I’ll just stick to a different powder to set my makeup (I’m going to try Make Up For Ever’s Super Matte Loose Powder next). So all of these so-so and not-so-good results makes me think its my foundation that is not keeping the oilies at bay. Maybe I should try something different there? I’m going to research and pick out a few to review, as always I’ll let you know how it goes!
