Sorry for being a bit absent lately. I have been in a scramble lately to change travel plans. See, I was supposed to leave Thursday for Texas to visit my best friend Emily but yesterday morning we got the joyous news that our first ever nephew was born (3 weeks early but still perfect!) I’m now an aunt!! So we have been changing our schedules so we can leave for Vegas on Thursday to see our new little relative. So I’ll be taking a little break but before I leave I’ll try to post an update on my shine killer search at Sephora. I’ve been trying a couple new things that I want to let you all know about. More info soon!

Tomorrow is the first day of fall and I am so happy about it! It may still be in the 90s in my neck of the desert but shortly it will be my favorite time of year and I can’t wait. Time to autumn-ize my house and celebrate! Here’s my plan: hit Pottery Barn and pick up a few fall home accessories (like these gourd candles and this pomegranate wreath for my front door) to mix in with the seasonal decor I already have, then head over to Illuminations and grab my favorite fall scented candles (YUM!), then purchase my first sweater of the season (like this fab Free People cardigan at Nordstrom) and finally bake up a cupcake storm with this delicious recipe. Best weekend ever!

In my never-ending quest to find a product that keeps my T-zone matte for more than 3 hours, I scooped up Smashbox’s Anti-Shine after reading pretty good reviews over at Makeup Alley. Wouldn’t you figure instead of the stellar results that many reviewers mentioned, I found the product dried to a cakey, white, powdery mess and it was impossible to blend my foundation over it? For some reason, I could not get it to blend into my skin at all and it made my pores look huge too. I put on moisturizer beforehand, used a tiny amount and smoothed it on but it just turned into grossness on me. I am off to return it to Sephora and try something else. I’ll keep you posted!

So the Emmy’s are over. My thoughts on this year’s show: Ryan Seacrest did a pretty good job, the sensor cutting to a silent backstage shot was seriously annoying, the round stage looked cool but was not so cool for the people sitting behind it the whole night, there are WAY too many mini-series awards given out, and why was Kanye West there again?? My fave parts of the show were America Ferrera winning (Yay, Ugly Betty!), Terry O’Quinn’s acceptance speech (Yay, Lost!), Elaine Stritch and her adorable banter with the audience (“I’m not faking this, I really don’t know what the hell I’m doing,” she said and then squinted intensely to try to read the telepromter. She practically stole the show!), and especially when Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert presented an award, complete with a leaf blower and giving the award away to Steve Carell after the winner was a no show! They should host it together next year, that would be hilarious! My best dressed picks are: Eva Longoria in Kaufman Franco, America Ferrera in Monique Lhuillier, and Katherine Heigl in Zac Posen. Gorgeous! (images via People)

That I could trade my Old Navy trench for this one by Jenni Kayne. So perfect.

For my newest loot from Sephora, I was on the hunt for a new lip gloss to try. About 8 months ago, I swore myself off lip gloss purchases after realizing I had about 17 barely used tubes in my possession. (The only new ones I received were from free gifts or coupons.) I decided my lip gloss abstinence was getting old and I really wanted to try some new brands. So I picked up Fresh’s new Sugar Lip Gloss available only at Sephora. It has Fresh’s signature pleasant, citrus taste and is by far the lightest feeling lip gloss I have ever tried. It is not tacky or sticky at all and feels very nourishing and smooth. I checked the website to get more info on the formula and it says, “Skin-smoothing humectants and moisturizers like sugar, shea butter, jojoba oil, grape seed oil, and black currant seed oil, are blended with the powerful antioxidant Vitamin E.” It does give off more of an oil based sensation than a thick, creamy based feeling like many glosses have. I thought it was a nice change from the usual! I purchased the gloss in Sugar Shag, a shiny cherry red that can work for any skin tone. So far I like it and I’m looking forward to trying their other pretty shades!

Hooray for more fashion shows on television! My favorite snobby yet endearing fashion guru, Tim Gunn, has his own show on Bravo- Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style on Thursday nights. The premiere last night was great and it only lasts for eight weeks so you should totally put on your Tivo list! Tim Gunn helps style victims find their signature look (and gives them a closet full of designer frocks) with a bit of firm but lovable guidance like only he can deliver. He even cried at the end of the show yesterday, awwww! On the show’s website Gunn says, “I want every woman to achieve her style zenith.” I mean, anyone who can perfectly interject a word like zenith into a normal sentence is pure genius in my book. I’m going to have to remember that next time I play Scrabble!

Winona over at Daddy Likey is running a contest and you have to check it out! She wants us to post our horrible fashion memories from middle school in the comment section to win a fabulous gift pack full of middle school memories. Keep checking this week to read more hilarious flashbacks from commenters and see who Winona picks as the best nominees for the contest. I submitted my comment already and if I can find a picture of me in middle school, I’ll put it up here for you all to laugh at with me! (For now, I thought I’d post a picture of my junior high inspiration- 90210. Best. Show. Ever. From sixth grade until college it was like a dear friend to me, man I miss it!)

Second on my list for things I desperately want for this fall season is this smart, classic beauty of a handbag. The College Hill Charlie from Kate Spade is made with italian wool felt and trimmed in waxed vachetta. Out of the four colors it comes in (green, charcoal, navy and red) I can’t decide which I like best! I love the angular hobo shape, cute front zipper pocket and large brass button accents. Just looking at it makes me think of leaves falling, a steamy mug of apple cider and wearing a trench coat! And being that it is still like a 105 degrees here, what wonderful thoughts to have.
