Thinking ahead.

bridesmaidshoes.jpgIt may be way too early for me to even be thinking about this but my brother is getting married in about 4 and a half months and I am a bridesmaid. Our dresses are chocolate brown, strapless and tea length and the ceremony will be outside at a gorgeous, historic Spanish estate. Alex (my bro’s super wonderful fiancee who I am so excited to have as a sister) said we can wear whatever shoes we fancy- so I’m thinking strappy sandals with not too high of a heel (to save my feet from all the dancing I will be doing later). I feel the need to plan early because with my luck I will go look for shoes a month before the wedding and everything will be out in my size. Plus I have fairly large (size 9) but really narrow feet so shoe shopping is not the fastest task for me. Here are a few options I am considering, this J. Renee Chili Sandal with a 2 and a half inch heel and some fun sparkly details, a Chinese Laundry slide in bronze or a Nina strappy sandal. Besides trying to keep the cost low since I won’t wear these much, I want to avoid a strap that goes over the top of my ankle since that seems to cut you off at the feet and make you look stumpy. But I’m not sure whether to try to match the brown of the dress or go with gold or bronze. Any ideas?

A penny saved.

sale.jpgMy Christmas was great! I hope you all had a memorable long weekend too! I am not venturing out to the shops today since it will be way too busy but I do have a few gifts to exchange so I will make a trip to the mall sometime this week.  There is no way I can resist all the after-Christmas sales, and even if what I want is sold out in the stores, plenty of shops have online sales as well! Here are a couple I am going to check out this week: Ann Taylor Loft’s “Ultimate Sale,” Anthropologie’s “Boxing Day Sale,” Neiman Marcus “After Christmas Sale,” and Banana Republic’s “Winter Sale.” And exclusively online, shopbop is having huge markdowns! One more sale to keep in mind is that it is time for Nordstrom’s “Half Yearly Sale for Men” (just in case you want to pick up a few items for your sweetie too!) So far, I am planning on getting the Chalet slippers at Banana Republic (for about $20 0ff) that I featured in my shopping picks awhile back and a cashmere faux wrap dolman sweater from Loft marked down from $119.99 TO $49.99! We’ll have to see what else I’ll snap up, I have been searching for a perfect pair of black pumps and a new black bag but I’m taking my time. And if you’re interested shopbop has the L.A.M.B. plaid blazer I featured a couple posts down for about $150 off now! Happy sale shopping!

Is this a misprint?

anthroearrings.jpgI often browse the sale sections of my favorite shops online because sometimes you can find a deal so good it is almost unbelievable. You know, like cashmere for under $100 or those shoes you’ve been drooling over are still left in your size and $75 off! But today I almost fell off my bed (where I am sitting with my laptop) because the earrings that I have been wanting forever at Anthropologie are $200 off! Yep, that’s right- originally $249.95 down to $49.95…all I can say is Merry Christmas to me! 22k gold plated with vermeil leaves on had-wrapped teardrops, so perfect and so affordable! Okay, I just noticed my last four sentences ended in an exclamation point, sorry if my enthusiasm seems excessive but this made my otherwise hectic, hurried, Christmas cookie disaster of a day a little brighter. By the way, I’ll be gone for a little bit busy with Holiday happenings but I’ll be back on Tuesday. I hope all your Holidays are full of joy!

And the winner is…

Congrats to Emily of Harrisonburg, VA!! She won my barely used Kate Spade handbag and it will be sent off to her this week (and no, it’s not my best friend Emily who commented that she was with me when I bought it, she lives in Texas!) Thank you so much to everyone who entered and I wish I had extra handbags to give you all…hmmm, that would mean buying a lot more bags which I am totally for! My husband might not agree with me though…By the way, is anyone else having as crazy of a week as me? I am still not done with Christmas shopping, baking, cleaning and I haven’t even started wrapping, ugh, I’m getting a headache!

Beautiful grunge.

gwen3.jpgI just saw this picture of Gwen Stefani wearing one of her very own L.A.M.B. blazers and I love it! It brings back memories of being in high school during the grunge era, when dressing for class was so easy because you only had to decide which plaid flannel shirt you were going to wear that day, and of course the ripped jeans and Doc Martens too! But this outfit is nice because it’s as if grunge flannel met its glamorous alter ego and got spiffed up a bit. You can buy it at Kitson for $485…or you can wait until it goes on sale…or find a cheaper alternative. I did look for pieces at other stores that were similar but nothing even came close to the style of the original!

Gift Guide Part 6: Last Minute Gifts

giftslastminute.jpgOnly days left until wrapping paper will be flung around the family rooms of the world…but what do you do if you still need to purchase a gift and you are fresh out of ideas? Never fear! Hit your local big box stores for sure-to-please gifts that aren’t damaging to your already blown budget! Here are a few options that I turn to when I am in a gift jam. If I need to pick up a gift for a hostess of a party or for that co-worker or friend that gave you a gift but you didn’t get them one (I feel sooo bad when that happens!), throw together a pampering basket! Head over to any department store or even Target and pick out cute slippers or super soft slipper socks, a nice beauty product like sugar scrub, bath soak or a facial mask, a pretty nail polish and toe separators or a nail file. Then toss in her favorite magazine and some quality chocolate and you’ve got a no-fail basket that will please pretty much every woman! Onto a speedy gift solution for guys (or less girly girls!), I usually create a movie night gift. Grab a bog bowl (some stores even sell retro popcorn bowls) and fill it with classic movie treats like Goobers, Milk Duds, Junior Mints, Raisinets or Sour Patch Kids and of course microwave popcorn! Bed Bath and Beyond has a set that has all these items put together for you! Then, put in a gift card for movie rentals or a must have DVD to add to their collection. So those are my two no-fail, last minute gifts that I turn to when I’m in a rush! I hope you’ve enjoyed my gift guides for this holiday season and I hope your holidays are stress-free, full of joy and focused on all the things that truly matter!

Friday Favorites: Jewelry plus makeup!

juciy.jpgI don’t know if I’m the only one who remembers “Pizazz” from the 80s, it was bracelets and necklaces and banana clips that had little compartments of makeup (mostly frosted pink lip gloss and bright blue eyeshadow!) attached to them? I loved those things since they were like toy beauty products that I could get away with using during elementary school! And now I’ve been noticing brands such as YSL, Dior and Kimora Lee Simmons are re-inventing the wearable makeup art form beyond the plastic tackiness of Pizazz. After browsing all the options, my favorite is from Juicy Couture, which is random because I usually don’t like much from this label. But I have noticed some of their jewelry is really cute! Neiman Marcus has an exclusive Juicy Lip Gloss Charm bracelet that is simply adorable with its pink silk ribbon and heart shaped charms. The charms are filled each with a different flavored lip gloss on one side and a mirror on the other. It also comes in a pretty gold gift box so it makes a perfect present for any girly girls that you are shopping for this Holiday season!

Last Day!

Tomorrow is the last day to enter my Kate Spade Giveaway! Click here for pictures and info and here to enter the contest. I’ll announce the winner most likely on Monday (after I contact them.) Good luck! I’m feeling a little under the weather today (nothing serious!) so I’m not in much of a blogging mood but hopefully it will go away soon and I’ll have a Friday Favorites post for you all tomorrow. Until then!
