Friday Favorites: JT news

jtshow.jpgYes, I have mentioned my affection for a certain popstar named Justin Timberlake before but I am so excited from recent Justin news that I had to devote a post to him! I love love love his new album FutureSex/LoveSounds, it’s got a modern vibe but is reminiscent of smooth groovin tracks from years ago. It gets me dancing and singing and I couldn’t be happier. Until…I got the news that JT announced his US tour schedule and Phoenix is on the list! I went to the Justified/Stripped tour in 2003 (one of the wedding gifts from my hubby- so sweet!) and was so impressed with his talent on stage. Even if I am surrounded by screaming teenage girls, I don’t care! But I did see plenty of 20s something couples there together so I didn’t feel too silly. Jan 14th here I come! Besides music news, Justin and his best friend Trace Ayala, unveiled their fashion line, William Rast, two days ago in L.A.’s fashion week. It has a southern comfort meets city style feel and features premium denim, casual graphic tees and hoodies for both men and women. I am already planning on purchasing a couple tees for myself and Adrian (my husband). After all, he does put up with my Justin obsession so he should get something out of it!

Beauty to go.

makeupbags.jpgRecently, I mentioned how disorganized my makeup collection was and I did get around to cleaning up and putting things in order. In the process, I noticed I had a lot of throw-aways in there like old products, crumbled shadows and free samples I will NEVER use (I’m not a fan of purple lipstick on fair skin.) I also realized that my cosmetic bags are in a sad state of overuse. I try to have at least one good large organizer for travel and a small one for stashing in my handbag in case I need extra backup when I’m out. Unless you’re my husband, you will never see me without lipstick on and that’s a promise! So for me, it’s time to buy some new cosmetic cases. Sephora has some good choices for travel bags, like the Essential Travel Cosmetic Case. It is made with durable nylon and has 3 zipper pockets, 2 side pockets, 1 large slide pocket, a roomy interior and a hook for hanging if needed.  For everyday use, I could just go to Target or Ulta and get a cute inexpensive makeup bag and I just might. But….I found these makeup bags at Kate Spade and I am now obsessed with them. One: they’re green and I LOVE green. Two: they have a bobby pin pattern on them, so cute! Three: the fabric is sealed so no stains, that means they’ll last and are worth the extra $. Four: Kate Spade is one of my addictions, I can’t help myself! Okay, now that I got that off my chest, I am convinced I must have these cosmetic bags and hopefully this well thought out decision will seem rational to my husband as well. We share our money so we consider each other’s opinion with unnecessary very needed splurges, we’ll see how it goes!

Pick pink!

hairdryer.jpgIt’s simple, I’m a girl and I love pink. Pink lipgloss, pink high heels, pink handbags, pink nail polish, pink tops, pink anything! One more great thing about my favorite color pink? Pink tourmaline gems apparently make the best technology for blow dryers. They are ground into a powder and used to create “tourmaline ceramic technology,” which basically means they mix or bake the stuff into the actual hair dryer components.  This process improves the daily hair drying ritual by leaving your hair softer, shinier and cutting down drastically on drying time.  There are quite a few options when it comes to these high tech tools from the oh-so-pricey T3 brand (around $200) to the more affordable Conair Infiniti line (around $40). But the one I love the most is the Hot Tools Fighting Breast Cancer Edition (around $65), Not only is it double the pink factor, because of pink tourmaline technology + pink color, but a portion of the proceeds go directly to breast cancer research. After all, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you’re on the hunt for a new styling tool, this is a wonderful choice for an even more wonderful cause!

Problem solved.

solasbag.jpgI was reading a story on USA Today that featured the handbag styles of Jessica Alba, when I noticed a fabulous clutch she was carrying at a Post-Oscar party. The Solas “Healing” Clutch is a beautiful pleated leather bag that has a lipstick mirror and large zipper pocket inside. But the best part? Every Solas handbag is lined with lighting! No more fumbling around for keys or lipgloss when you are out at night!  I don’t know why this technology isn’t in every bag, I can’t even count the number of times I can’t find things in my purses. This Solas bag has a versatile style that can go from casual to dressy. It looks perfect for date nights, special events or for those days when you don’t feel like toting a huge bag around! Priced around $155, it is available in 6 different colors on the Solas website. It is the next purse on my must-have list!

The name game.

personalgift.jpgI remember when I was a little girl and my mom would dress me in this monogram sweater from Lands’ End and I hated it.  What’s funny is now I see those little sweaters and think, “how cute is that?!”  Since we all know that everyone’s favorite word is their own name, monogram gifts are a sure thing for almost any occasion. A wide variety of items can be personalized beyond the traditional sweater. Instyle magazine’s website has a feature this month on personalized gifts that are perfect for birthdays, anniversaries or the upcoming holiday season. A few standouts from their selections are a set of 25 customized Post-It notepads (I use those things like crazy!) or decoupage trays made with keepsakes like old letters or photos (great anniversary idea!) If you want an even bigger selection of personalized gifts, Red Envelope has an enormous collection from home accessories to jewelry.  Have fun shopping!

Friday Favorites: Fashion Fixers

spanx.jpgClingy fabrics- one of the most despised enemies of women everywhere! For some reason it always turns out that some of my favorite clothes are made with less forgiving threads that show every little pucker and bump on my body. Unlined trousers and silky tops are some of the biggest culprits in my closet! It’s not that I don’t love the way they feel or look, it’s just that they could look a little better with some help. When I’m facing a fashion emergency that calls for some extra backup, I turn to Spanx Power Panties and Higher Power. They may sound silly or frumpy but they are anything but! Designed by a woman, they are simply the most comfortable, most flattering shapers ever. They feel like you’re not wearing anything and they are invisible under clothes, making your more clingy items look smoother and completely eliminating VPL (visible panty line.) They are also perfect for special occasions like weddings because you can wear them all day and not feel the slightest bit of discomfort. Spanx have a huge variety of shapers, hosiery and undergarments to help you when you need it. You can order their products over the web at their site or purchase at major retailers like Nordstrom and Saks.

Meow!

stevemaddenshoe2.jpgI know how leopard is everywhere this season and I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my wardrobe without looking like I’m actually wearing an animal…So, I found these peep-toe wedges at Nordstrom today. My mom thinks they look like old lady shoes but I think she’s crazy. One thing I cannot believe is that they are practically $100 and they are by Steve Madden, I seriously don’t remember Steve Madden ever being this expensive! I’m not sure if I can justify spending this much on a trend that could be out next year so I need to mull it over a little.  Let me know what your opinions are on this shoe and if you think it is worth the steep pricetag!

Yes, I have dimples.

Blush is one of my most beloved beauty products. I can be dead tired and dragging but swipe on some rosy rouge and I look alive and chipper! I never seem to stick with one particular type of blush- sometimes powder, sometimes gel, sometimes cream. I’ve went down the cheek stain route and tried layering gel or cream with powder as well. Who knew there were so many ways to make your apples look like you just went for a jog? Amazing! Although, I think I’ve found the one I am sticking with for awhile, Stila’s Rouge Pots. They are extra-whipped and as light as air, so easy to blend and small so they don’t take up a ton of room in your makeup bag. As always, Stila’s packaging is flirty and feminine, I love so many of their products! Stila’s Rouge Pots are available in 6 different shades and have a sheer, long lasting color that looks very natural.

It’s easy being green.

scoopneck.jpgOver the summer I became addicted to the color green. I bought a dozen tops in different shades of green from grass to forest, I bought green eyeshadow, and even bought lots of clothes in green for my hubby too. It made me so happy. Now that the weather is cooling, (83 degrees!! we totally skipped from upper 90s to low 80s, I’m ecstatic!) I looked in my closet to calculate my fall/winter wardrobe potential and realized that I only have two green long sleeve tops! TWO?? That is simply not enough to satisfy me any longer! I need to take quick action, so I was browsing today at Anthropolgie and Ann Taylor Loft and saw so many cute tops in my lucky color that I am ready to buy.  I love the bright, half sleeve knit scoopneck from Anthropologie on the top. It looks like it would be very flattering with the gathering at the waist and loose fit. I also love this crochet scoopneck from Loft on the bottom. Such pretty details and gorgeous rich color. And they are both under $75 each, yippee! Hopefully they will both work for me and then I will double the green power of my wardrobe for the fall!
